When the state faces a crisis — floods, severe storms, civil unrest, or large-scale disasters — the Guard can be called in quickly to assist with rescue operations, perimeter security, and essential support. At the same time, the federal government can deploy them alongside the regular military when national-level needs arise. It's that flexibility, the ability to shift between civilian emergency support and military operation, that makes the National Guard a force unlike any other in Springfield's response structure.
